The fight for the unclaimed light heavyweight belt will be the main event at UFC 282 in Las Vegas, featuring Jan Blachowicz and Magomed Ankalaev. If Blachowicz wins, he will become the person to win the title twice.
The main event of this program was supposed to be a rematch between former light heavyweight champion Glover Teixeira and the current holder of the UFC light heavyweight championship, Jiri Prochazka. However, this fight was rescheduled. After suffering what UFC doctors have described as the most severe shoulder injury they’ve ever seen, Jiřà Procházka had to relinquish his title and give up the belt.
The light heavyweight title was held by Blachowicz until as recently as October of last year when he lost it to Glover Teixeira at UFC 267. Blachowicz has finally taken benefit of the chance, although since he gave up his title in 2022, the only fight he has had is an injury-related victory against Aleksandr Rakic in March.
After recovering from a defeat in his UFC debut to establish an outstanding eight-bout winning run, Ankalaev will provide a significant challenge.
Paddy Pimblett of England, who is quickly rising to fame, competes against experienced lightweight Jared Gordon in the co-featured battle.
