Team News

Sevilla

Sevilla has had a terrible start to the new season in the La Liga table, with no wins and three defeats. Last weekend, the Spanish side could not put anything against Barcelona, losing 0-3.

In the national championship, Sevilla has made their worst start in 41 years, with Lopetegui in post-match interviews complaining of atypical mistakes in defence. The defence is no longer the best in the Primera after the sale of Koundé and Diego Carlos, plus injuries of Rekik and Marcão. In such a situation, a significant burden falls on former Bayern player Kouassi, who is inherently unstable due to his youth.

Another huge problem and headache for Lopetegui is the absence of a classic playmaker. Gomez has failed to live up to expectations, and Isco is far from his best form after many years out of action at Real Madrid. Meanwhile, Sevilla plays in a 4-3-3 formation, loading the opponents’ penalty area from the wings.

Sevilla’s possible starting lineup: Bono; Navas, Nianzou, Fernando, Acuna; Jordan, Rakitic, Delaney; Lamela, Gomez; En-Nesyri.

Manchester City

Manchester City has been a title contender since the opening rounds of the EPL, but they have been conceding an unusual amount for their level. At the weekend, the Citizens lost points against Aston Villa in a 1-1 defeat.

The performance of Guardiola’s men is astonishing – Erling Haaland, despite the criticism directed at him, is scoring well, not involved in much of the ball handling. Still, he is effective in the closing stages of the game. The Norwegian is paired with Alvarez, with the Argentine playing in the second position but being more prolific in pressing.

Guardiola continues to experiment; he has a wide choice of players and only Ederson looks irreplaceable. In the interview, Pep said that he would play a two-striker formation against locked-up clubs, highlighting the link-up between Foden and Cancelo on the wing, with danger coming from every player in the starting lineup.

Manchester City possible starting lineup: Ederson; Cancelo, Dias, Stones, Ake; Gundogan, Rodri, De Bruyne; Mahrez, Haaland, Grealish.
