Initially, Cejudo scheduled to face former UFC and WEC featherweight champion Jose Aldo in the fight to defend the title. However, the Brazilian cannot get to the United States due to an expired visa.

This will be the first fight where Cejudo defends his bantamweight title since last June when he claimed the belt.
