Arsenal Team News
What can you say about the performance of Mikel Arteta’s team as a result of the first round of the APL? On the whole, not bad, although they could and should have played better.
Gabriel Martinelli opened the scoring in the 25th minute, and towards the end Palace scored an own goal. Luck, rather than class, played an important role here. But a win is a win, and it enables Arteta’s side to stay at the top of the EPL for a while, although the results of the parallel encounters push the Gunners.
The game against Leicester in the second leg will be a greater challenge than against Palace: Foxes qualified for the Conference League semi-finals, although they suffered from a worrying lack of quality in the EPL last season.
Arsenal possible line-up: Ramsdale, White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko, Xhaka, Partey, Odegaard, Saka, Smith Rowe, Jesus
Leicester City Team News
Leicester’s game against Brentford has not yet been played at the time of writing. But it is already clear that this season will be different for Brendan Rodgers’ team, with their irreplaceable goalkeeper Kaspar Schmeichel leaving for Nice in the off-season. It’s a major blowout, as it’s hard to imagine this team without the Danish star, who helped the club tear up everyone in the EPL in the 2015/2016 season.
Danny Ward and Daniel Iversen could replace him in goal, but only the season will tell if they can at the same time make Leicester’s defence play tighter. In the transferred business, there is still an active battle for Wesley Fofana, who Chelsea are keen to buy for any money.
Leicester City possible line-up: Ward, Fofana, Amartey, Evans, Castagne, Ndidi, Tielemans, Justin, Maddison, Dewsbury-Hall, Vardy
